Still at the pizzeria instead of the spreadsheets job I was born for; still suffering various ba'alei lashon hara. But my conference experience has given me new hope. This June at SWPACA I presented on precarity as theodicy in Minecraft Parkour Civilization. Then, in October, I was at the RMMLA talking about metonymy, dehumanization, and the poetry book Anarcha Speaks. Next on the docket is PAMLA, for which I'm hype as hell.
I'd love to say I feel alive again; but then, I'm currently reading Mel Y. Chen's Animacies, on the recommendation of my conference bestie, and relate (for different reasons) to their observation:
I found myself deeply suspicious of my own reassuring statements to my anxious friends that I was feeling more alive again. Surely I had been no less alive when I was more sick, except under the accountings of an intuitive and immediately problematic notion of “liveliness” and other kinds of “freedom” and “agency.”
I have a lot of reading to do before PAMLA, but how I'd love to just bask in this book for a while. But my docket is similarly stacked: Christina Sharpe, Rae Armantrout, Jasbir Puar. My kingdom to have an earnings report on the second monitor and a book on the first.
